Are you interested in teaching online or redesigning a current course that you teach? Perhaps you’re already teaching online, but you’re interested in developing new strategies to help your students succeed. Maybe you would like to incorporate online activities into your face-to-face course to incorporate a blended/hybrid learning approach.
Participating in these professional development opportunities can enhance your teaching of face-to-face, hybrid, online synchronous, and online asynchronous courses.
Course development follows a sequential process, and with appropriate time and preparation faculty can successfully move a course from design to implementation. Online or hybrid course design and development is a time intensive process, for both faculty and the instructional designer. Preparation should begin at least one year prior to when the course is listed in Banner with its new online or hybrid format.
Instructional Design and Distance Learning recommends that all instructors interested in teaching an online or hybrid course first verify with their Chair for any specific departmental requirements for online and hybrid course offerings.
After verifying department requirements, we recommend that instructors participate in one of the following online course development options. These options are meant to serve as general guidelines for online and hybrid course development.
